Purchasing Assistant
Aspen Custom Trailers is the premier supplier of heavy haul transportation equipment to the World and we have an exciting opening for a Purchasing Assistant. This is no everyday role and no day will ever be called ordinary.
Reporting to the Materials Manager, you will support the production requirements by buying and expediting direct material from material planning reports. Your ability to multi task with ease will allow you to negotiate service contracts, maintain excellent supply chain relations, identify alternative sources, and monitor inventory of consumable products. And that's not all... at Aspen our Buyers are expected to find quick solutions to unplanned changes and use their creativity to resolve supply problems when they occur.
Most would call you a Jack or Jill of all trades, and you look for opportunities that will challenge you to learn and keep you busy. In this role, your days will be varied as you work directly with Engineering, Production and Accounting.
The successful candidate will have at 1-2 years experience purchasing direct materials in a manufacturing environment or working in a parts department. You are able to cope in a dynamic environment, have a demonstrated ability to solve problems, are equally flexible and demanding depending on the situation, manage your time effectively, and are meticulously organized. We run an integrated accounting and enterprise resource planning system so intermediate computer skills in MS-Office programs are a must. A recognized professional designation or diploma in supply chain management is an asset but not required.

Manufacturing Engineer

Every day the team at Aspen Custom Trailers takes on some of the biggest heavy haul design and manufacturing challenges in North America. This is a hands-on role optimizing current manufacturing processes and designing new process to build multi-axle transporters in our 100,000 square foot facility in Leduc, Alberta.
You will be responsible for developing and continually improving Aspen’s manufacturing processes. Every day you will be working to optimize quality, capacity and efficiency by investigating, designing and modelling all Aspen’s manufacturing processes. As well, you will recommend and commission capital expenditures including manufacturing equipment and material handling equipment to improve efficiency as well as collaborate with design engineers to optimize design for ease of manufacture. The successful candidate will have a Bachelor of Applied Science in Engineering (Industrial or Manufacturing) with a demonstrated understanding of process design methodologies for low volume, high mix product offerings and lean manufacturing theory. You have two or more years working in your profession. If you have experience designing processes for manufacturing mobile equipment, you will be considered first! You bring with you a personal commitment to excellence, a meticulous nature and extraordinary computer and statistical skills.

System Design Engineer

We have an exciting opportunity open for an innovative system design engineer looking for the next step in their career in a growing company that has been around for over 30 years.
This is a hands-on role designing the hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems of our multi-axle transporters. Not only will you design the systems for these huge transporters, you’ll qualify vendor parts, document the system’s performance to meet regulations, and provide technical support to our customers.
The successful candidate will have a technical diploma in Engineering with 2+ years experience in systems design. Systems design principles are second nature to you and your experience in the systems design of hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical will put you at the front of the pack. You work well in a shop environment and excel at developing systems using CAD and Solid modeling software. You bring with you a commitment to excellence and a meticulous nature. People are drawn to you given your excellent interpersonal skills matched with your impeccable communication to both colleagues and customers alike.

Material Handler
Aspen Custom Trailers is looking for an experienced Material Handler to join the team at their production facility in Leduc, Alberta. The Material Handling team is key to the success of Aspen’s production, if the production staff don’t have or can’t find the material they need exactly when they need it, the entire process comes to a grinding halt. Loading and unloading trucks will be a big part of your day as you will be responsible for controlling the flow of material at Aspen’s production facility. You will receive material and put it in the correct location, kit parts according to bills of material so they are ready for each work center when they need them and cycle count inventory on a schedule. It’s all about control and the Material Handling team is responsible for controlling all material in and out of the stock room, inside the production facility and in the yard. Keeping the shop clean is also part of the job because we all know it’s impossible to find what you need in an untidy facility.
The ideal candidate has at least 2 years shipping/receiving experience with fork lift, loader and overhead crane experience. If you don’t have experience running a loader or overhead crane, we can teach you. But you must have a strong work ethic, be meticulously organized and quick to learn new skills.
